Visa and OpenAI Put AI Agents in Charge of Payments as Educators Tally AI's Classroom Costs

Visa has struck a deal with OpenAI to let artificial intelligence agents make payments for users, announced at the Visa Payments Forum in San Francisco, according to Siliconangle. Visa will supply the network, tokenization and risk capabilities behind the transactions, which will run within user-defined permissions such as spending caps and merchant categories, and Visa's global head of growth Rubail Birwadker said more than one in five transactions are already being influenced by what consumers learn through large language models.

A Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia study conducted from March 2024 to February 2026 found that more than 80 percent of students aged nine to 12 were unable to solve mathematical questions requiring basic calculation and reasoning skills, according to Malay Mail, which reports growing reliance on calculators and ChatGPT and warns Malaysia risks raising a generation proficient in AI but lacking critical thinking.
