HSBC Partners With Google Cloud on AI as China Tests Cross-Border Data Trading
HSBC and Google Cloud announced an AI banking partnership, according to Fintech Finance, positioning the collaboration as a move to embed artificial intelligence more deeply across the bank's operations.
China is testing cross-border data trading in Southeast Asia as AI systems drive demand for local training data, Channel NewsAsia reported, spotlighting a May memorandum between the state-owned Shenzhen Data Exchange and Malaysian firm Zetrix AI to connect Chinese and ASEAN data markets. Industry players cautioned that the nascent sector still faces open questions over how data should be priced, shared and governed across borders.
Researchers used AI to analyze routine retinal photographs from more than 40,000 patients in a UK databank and predicted major Alzheimer's risk factors, Neuroscience News reported, including high blood pressure, smoking, alcohol use and insomnia. Because the retina is a direct extension of the central nervous system, the low-cost images can act as an early biological sensor decades before symptoms appear.
A University of Cincinnati study found that AI voice-cloning scams are especially effective when a cloned voice shares the listener's own timbre, Neuroscience News reported, noting that scammers need less than 10 seconds of audio to clone a voice and that vocal similarity alone raises a listener's compliance.
Newsweek reported that AI girlfriends are already making the dating scene harder, citing therapists who warn about the effect of AI companions on real relationships.
