DeepMind's GraphCast Outperforms Weather Forecasts as Domain-Specific AI Takes Center Stage

Google DeepMind’s GraphCast, a graph neural network, can predict global weather up to 10 days ahead at 0.25° resolution in under one minute (DeepMind). Trained on the ERA5 dataset, it outperforms the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts’s HRES system on 90% of 1,380 targets and also improves forecasts of extreme weather events.
