Anthropic Courts Teachers With Free Claude as University of Phoenix Signs With OpenAI
Anthropic launched a free version of Claude built specifically for K-12 teachers in the US, offering a library of teaching skills and connections to evidence-based curricula mapped to academic standards in all 50 states, according to a Nexstar report carried by Yahoo News. Teachers who sign up by June 30, 2027 get a full year of access, and the report cites a Gallup survey finding 6 in 10 teachers used an AI tool during the 2024-25 school year, with regular users estimating they saved nearly six hours per week. Higher education moved the same day: University of Phoenix announced a collaboration with OpenAI to expand access to ChatGPT Edu and embed AI skills across programs serving its working adult learners, whose average age is approximately 38, per a Business Wire release on FinancialContent.
AI's confidence problem got a cosmic illustration in research covered by Head Topics, in which Michigan State University scientists showed that a neural network trained to detect life with 99.7 percent accuracy could be fooled into proclaiming life with 100 percent confidence in as few as 150 tweaks to a non-replicating digital organism.
